One time

One time,
when I was in Germany,

I saw a hedge hog.

It ran accross the sidewalk
and
into a hedge.

  1. Please pardon my random thoughts.
I thought about it while I was watching a movie that does not have hedge hogs in it.

There's not really anything interesting about it, except maybe that we don't have them here. So, most likely, nobody else has ever seen one.

My mom had a ceramic figurine of a hedge hog named Miss Tiggly Wiggly sitting on a shelf outside my bedroom door where I grew up. I must have seen it every day of my life till I was 18. It's still there, right next to Peter Rabbit, Benjamin Bunny, Jamima Puddle Duck, and Tom Kitten. Did I forget anybody?

    It shouldn't be funny.
But, I can't stop laughing at that thought.

The worst part is that it actually happened.

  2. That's a good memory. Everyone ought to see a hedgehog sometime! This post made me wonder, and here is what I found on wikipedia:

"There are 16 species of hedgehog in five genera, found through parts of Europe, Asia, Africa, and New Zealand. There are no hedgehogs native to Australia, and no living species native to North America; those in New Zealand are introduced."

So seeing hedgehogs means traveling, but even then there's no guarentee you'll see one, as they're not as common as squirrels or sparrows, at least in my experience.

A friend just gave us the little Miss Tiggly Wiggly book for Lucy this morning. I haven't looked at the book yet and didn't realize the Miss was a hedgehog. We must've not had that story growing up.

  3. Actually, it's Mrs. Tiggywinkle. It was the first of my Beatrix Potter books, always a favorite, bought when Sara was tiny.
